Proponents of glamour in interiors are divided into two camps: avid gold fans and silver lovers. We associate both of these colors with glamour, opulence, and sometimes – quite unnecessarily – with glitz, trash and kitsch. Yes, interiors overloaded with gold or silver accessories come off poorly, and staying in them is tiring and overwhelming. The case is definitely different, however, when gold and silver ornaments are a subtle addition, a small decoration that complements the arrangement, rather than aiming to dominate it.
Gold versus silver
Both bullions have a long history of being used for their ornamental qualities. From time immemorial, they have been used to decorate buildings, create jewelry, statues and vessels used in worship, among other things. Gold and silver also have very rich, partially overlapping symbolism. Gold, however, seems to be a slightly easier color in terms of using it in arrangements, as it goes with almost any style and definitely warms up the space. But contrary to appearances, silver is not at all left behind: silver accessories bring a touch of elegance and chic to the rooms. In addition, silver ornaments brighten interiors better than gold decorations – thanks to the fact that they reflect the sun’s rays. They do not have to be associated with coldness or sterility, although the color silver is located on the cold side of the color palette. Silver decorations can bring to mind purity, mystery and nobility.
How to make the interior design speak to us…?
It is said that speech is silver, so says a well-known proverb… therefore it is worth giving silver a speech in interiors! The rule is one: moderation. As with gold accessories, what’s too much is unhealthy – silver decorations are something not to be overdone with. That’s why a single silver piece of furniture, a few matching silver pots, or a silver vase and a silver picture frame would work better – but not all at once.
With silver, however, it is possible and worth experimenting. Contrary to popular belief, it suits not only the rich and glamorous glamour style. Silver accessories, if properly selected, will also find their place in a room decorated in a minimalist, modern or classic style, or even vintage! They match glass and crystal, as well as steel or brick. Silver decorations complement well interiors in blue, navy blue, as well as gray, graphite or shades of beige, brown, purple and red. In our opinion, in the role of silver decorations, which perfectly fit into interiors decorated in a variety of styles, pots work best. In various shapes and textures. Such silver ornaments can be shiny, glossy, but also matte, with various ornaments and cuts.
